Welcome to the Vermont CURE

We all know that the current health insurance system is badly broken, overly expensive, inefficient and indifferent to the delivery of quality healthcare. Health care costs are growing at more than twice the rate of our economy. This is an unsustainable trajectory, and something MUST be done. We need a simple, affordable and accessible solution, and we need it quickly.

We are headed in the right direction, and we are committed to ensuring that the next steps to universal reform happen. Vermont has been, and will continue to be a leader in America’s Health Care revolution. Governor Shumlin has already signed the law – we simply need to work together to make a system that works for everyone!

Vermont is a state of innovators and doers. Surely, we can create a system that works better, and is cheaper than what is already in place. We’re already on our way to doing it. Universal reform is a Vermont solution. It is thrifty, pragmatic and fair.

In the coming months, we’ll be working across the state to dispel myths about universal reform and to ensure that Vermonters' voices are heard when it comes to our need for a new health care solution, and our faith in the Governor and the legislature to get us there.

Our Mission

The Vermont Coalition for Universal Reform (The CURE) was created to develop and drive an independent campaign for universal access and the implementation of a Vermont-specific, single-payer, health-care-system called “Green Mountain Care.” Our mission is the creation of a publicly funded Vermont health care system that recognizes the needs of patients, providers and taxpayers that is simple, affordable, accessible and portable.

"All eyes are on Vermont’s plan for a single-payer system, starting in 2017. If it flies, it will change everything, with many states sure to follow suit by setting up their own versions. That’s why corporate money will soon flood into Vermont to crush it. The legislators who’ll go to the mat for this will need all the support they can get: If you live east of the Mississippi, look up the bus schedule to Montpelier."

-Filmmaker, Michael Moore New York Times Oped: "It's Time for Single Payer Health Care"

Petition for Universal Reform

We the undersigned believe health care should be affordable, accessible and available to Vermonters, regardless of their employment status or ability to pay. Universal access to health care will improve the health and wellbeing of all Vermonters and a healthier population will help curb the growth of health care costs, which are currently increasing at an unsustainable rate.

Therefore we the undersigned urge the Vermont Legislature to approve a public financing plan to pay for a universal health care program starting in 2017 offered through Green Mountain Care. All Vermonters should have a stake in paying for the program and all should benefit.
